Ponderosa Ballroom (now Guitars & Cadillacs)
Abilene est. 1975

L.C. Agnew played fiddle for mare than 50 years, playing on The
Louisiana Hayride, a radio show in Shreveport, Memphis, Tennessee where
he played with Chet Atkins and many other places. He eventually returned home to Texas, taking
a job in Abilene. In 1975, he and his wife Dorothy leased
the building on Vine Street that would become the Ponderosa Ballroom and operated it for about 18
years.
1n 1984, the Ponderosa was proclaimed the #2 nightclub in Texas by
Texas Monthly behind Austin's Broken Spoke. L.C. & his band played there
5-7 nights a week. The club also booked well known acts such as Asleep At The Wheel,
Johnny Bush, Rodney Crowell, Toby Keith, Hoyle
Nix, Jody Nix, Eddie Raven, Jerry Reed, Joe
Stampley, Keith Whitney, & many others. L.C. was inducted into the Western
Swing Music Hall of Fame a few years ago. The Ponderosa is still going strong today
as "Guitars & Cadillacs" & and is still one of the best places in Texas to
enjoy live music. With one of the largest dance floors in Texas, it is a great place to waltz, jitterbug
or do the Texas Two-Step.
